It Takes a Community to Grow Trees: SM Foundation, Inc. and the Fast Retailing Foundation Partner with Communities for the “Grow Trees Community” Project
THE CITY OF PASAY, Philippines, October 21, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — There is wisdom rooted in the old proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child.”
Along the same lines, SM Foundation, Inc., the social arm of the SM Group, and the Fast Retailing Foundation (FR Foundation), an incorporated general foundation Japan, are partnering with communities to grow diverse tree species in the firm hope that together they can plant the seeds for a better future.

Grow Trees Community engages local communities as stewards of the environment.
As a ‘Grow Trees Community’, the ‘arboriculture’ and reforestation initiative aims to plant and grow at least 200,000 trees in the provinces of Batangas, Pampanga and Benguet and help create livelihood opportunities working closely with grassroots conservation-focused organizations and various government agencies.
“The heart of our program is to go beyond planting trees. It meets the social and economic needs of communities by providing them with the means to engage in agroforestry. We want to build a solid foundation for continue to grow communities by fostering collaboration and leadership in caring for the environment,” said Cristie S. In a coastal village in the municipality of Macabebe where the project is most at risk, the two foundations intend to plant the Bakawan mangrove species to serve as a natural defense against storm surges while enhancing ecological biodiversity.
“We are particularly attracted to this project which is a first in terms of our partnerships here in the country. Once we can confirm the success of this project, we look forward to pursuing other such projects in the near future. in collaboration with our partner, the SM Foundation,” Yoshio Ishidadeclared the secretary general of the FR Foundation.
