Japan Foundation announces fifth edition of JFF in India

Celebrating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and India, this festival will focus on its diverse lineup of acclaimed, top-grossing and award-winning films.

The Japan Foundation announced on Friday the launch of the fifth edition of its Japanese Film Festival (JFF) in India, in partnership with PVR Cinemas.

This edition of the festival will take a multi-city tour starting in Delhi January 14-16 at PVR Select Citywalk, Saket, followed by Chennai February 4-6 at PVR Icon, VR Mall Chennai and Bengaluru February 11-13 PVR Mall Forum, Koramangala.

The digital edition of the film festival will run for two weeks, from February 14 to 27, for Indian audiences to enjoy the best of Japanese cinema from the comfort of their own homes.

Celebrating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and India, this festival will focus on its diverse lineup of acclaimed, top-grossing and award-winning films.

Koji Sato, Managing Director of the Japan Foundation, said, “We are extremely pleased to organize the fifth edition of the Japanese Film Festival in India in 2022, which also marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan. and India. The success of the last four editions of the festival and the massive response of Indian audiences to embrace Japanese culture has prompted us to bring it back to many of our major cities. JFF-India 2022 aims to strengthen the long-standing relationship between the two nations by providing Indian audiences with a sense of contemporary Japanese film culture and everyday experience. I am sure that this film festival will help to further consolidate the friendship between the peoples of our two countries.

He further added that the popularity of Japanese content has significantly increased in the Indian landscape, which has been further fueled by an increase in the consumption of online content in the current scenario. “We are delighted and grateful for the special place the festival has carved out for itself in the Indian landscape. Keeping consumers safe as much as possible, the hybrid platform will help us reach a wider audience and we hope the festival will be even stronger this year, ”he said.

The 2022 Japanese Film Festival’s film catalog includes films such as Josée, the Tiger and the Fish, Talking the Pictures, Poupelle of Chimney Town, Liar x Liar, Step, Under the Open Sky, Ramayana, The Legend of Prince Rama , Not Quite Dead Yet, Wife of a Spy, Ai Amok and The Night Beyond the Tricornered window.
