Japanese government supplies over 501,000 doses of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine to Tajikistan

Japan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Tajikistan, Mr. Toshihiro Aiki, attended the arrival ceremony of 501,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine provided by the Japanese government to Tajikistan through the COVAX mechanism, Trend reports with reference to Asia- More.

The Japanese Embassy in Dushanbe indicates that the ceremony took place at the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis of Tajikistan in the presence of Mr. Abdukholiq Amirzoda, Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare of the Population of Tajikistan and Mrs. Zainab Al-Azzawi, UNICEF Deputy Representative in Tajikistan.

Tajikistan has reportedly become the first Central Asian country to receive the Japanese government’s COVID-19 vaccine.

During the ceremony, Mr. Aiki indicated that the health sector is one of their priority areas in the bilateral cooperation between Japan and Tajikistan, saying that he hopes that 501,200 doses of Astra Zeneca will be provided through the COVAX facility will help save the lives of the Tajik people. He also noted that Japan is committed to working closely with the government of Tajikistan to improve the situation in the face of the pandemic.

In general, the Japanese government has provided about $8 million in humanitarian aid to Tajikistan to fight the pandemic.

The Government of Japan is determined to continue supporting the creation of a better society for all and is committed to working with the people of Tajikistan, notes the Japanese Embassy in Dushanbe.
