Osaka and Nagasaki submit IR offers to the Japanese government
Osaka and Nagasaki prefectures on Tuesday submitted their area development plans for RI bids to the national government. AGI has learned.
Osaka’s offering is in partnership with Osaka IR, a Special Purpose Company (SPC) run by MGM Resorts International and local company ORIX Corp. The area’s development plan stipulates that Osaka IR should open on Yumeshima Island by fall or winter 2029. Annual visitors are estimated at 20 million with annual sales of 520 billion yen ($4.1 billion). and annual economic ripple effects of 1.14 trillion yen ($9.0 billion). Other consortium members include Kansai Electric Power, Panasonic, Kintetsu Group Holdings and NTT West. Other investors include Obayashi, Takenaka Corporation, Taisei Corporation, Osaka Gas, JR West and JTB.
Nagasaki’s bid is for an IR alongside Dutch-inspired theme park Huis Ten Bosch, located in the city of Sasebo, with SPC Kyushu Resorts run by Casinos Austria International Japan as the operator. The goal is to open in the fall of 2027. Annual sales in the fifth year after opening are estimated at 272 billion yen ($2.1 billion) with approximately 6.73 million annual visitors and an economic ripple effect of 323 billion yen ( $2.5 billion).
